Over the last few weeks, Dr Damian Andrisani of Delaware Orthopedic Specialists, Aaron Stuminger, PhD candidate at the University of Delaware, and Aron McConnell, licensed physical therapist and certified in Functional Movement Screenings (FMS), have visited and worked with Caravel Academy pitchers to help assess and prescribe ways to keep them healthy, as well as collect data for research, and identify weaknesses that need to be corrected.
Dr. Andrisani (blue shirt) and Aaron Struminger (grey shirt), came to us to collect data for a study that they are conducting, that CA participated in last year as well, where they test the strength of a pitcher’s shoulder before and after they pitch to determine how fatigued their shoulder becomes over the course of pitching a game. This also will give data as to how the shoulder wears over the course of an entire season as well. The clips of them that you see at the beginning are where they are collecting baseline data to start the season.
The second half of the video, with Aron McConnell (red shirt), you will see he is leading the pitchers through a Functional Movement Screening, which is a series of focused exercises that illustrate which specific movements the participant needs to work on to unlock his or her full athletic potential. We believe very strongly that FMS is very important in developing the athletic potential of our athletes.
